They lift items with flat surfaces like beams, plates, and blocks, as well as round-surface objects like pipes, automotive parts, round stock, and steel balls. Since rounded surfaces have smaller contact areas than flat surfaces, lifting magnets don't have the same lifting capacity with round objects as they do with flat objects.
